READERS SUMMARY: 1. WHO REALLY CONTROLS OUR FAT MASS? 2. HOW DO HORMONES CONTROL OUR FLORA? 3. HOW SHOULD DOCTORS TRANSLATE HEALTH OR ILLNESS? 4. WHAT IS AN EXAMPLE OF MODERN LIFE THAT EXEMPLIFIES THIS? 5. WHAT REALLY KILLED THE KING OF POP? Today we are going to dive into the gut flora story a bit deeper than we did in our first gut flora post to help you understand how a a change in gut flora might lead to changes in your health by altering your hormone panel. Obesity is an inflammatory brain condition. Where does the infection come from? The gut flora actually is what causes humans to become fat. It has to due with shear numbers and the species of bacteria in our gut. There is a particular flora that produces adiposity and obesity in humans. These bacteria make something called FIAF (Fasting induced adipose factor) that control this process. This factor blocks lipoprotein lipase (LPL) in fat cells. LPL allows us to convert dietary Free Fatty Acids carried in lipoproteins into neutral fats that are stored in adipocytes. NON GEEKS: Our gut bacteria makes humans fat. GEEK ALERT: The FIAF isContinue Reading
BRAIN GUT 7: INTRO TO YOUR GUT MICROBIOME
Many of you know I believe obesity if an inflammatory disease of the brain. Where this disease begins may surprise some of you. It begins in our gut flora. How does this happen? Read this link! Sub optimal bacteria which contain bacterial toxins called lipopolysaccharides (LPS) which are found in bacterial cell membranes. As gut LPS rises, it has been shown to cause a rise in serum leptin levels. Once leptin levels are raised high enough it stimulates SOCS 3 signaling in the hypothalamus to cause LR.
CPC #5 THE LEAKY GUT/ADRENAL FATIGUE CASE
READERS SUMMARY: HOW CAN A LEAKY GUT CAUSE ADRENAL FATIGUE? CAN OTHER THINGS COMPLICATE THIS LIKE A VIRAL INFECTION? CAN WE TREAT IT? HOW DO WE TREAT IT? CAN YOU HOPE FOR IMPROVEMENT TOO? A PATIENT TESTIMONIAL AFTER JUST 4 MONTHS OF TREATMENT We have talked at length on my forum about how a leaky gut can cause havoc for modern humans. What many people do not realize is that humans having a leaky gut happened by design. Primates, our nearest relatives, do not have leaky guts by design because they do not have zonulin the protein that binds our gut cell membranes where they join. Many people are shocked to find out that this make it impossible for a Primate to get an autoimmune disease. This is also true. Primates also can’t get an infection of H. Pylori in their guts either. This is why Barry Marshall had to drink a vat of H. Pylori to prove it caused human ulcer disease in the last part of the 20th century. He had no animal models that would prove his hypothesis. Check out this detailed history of precisely what the establishment did to Dr. Marshall and his ideas for closeContinue Reading
EPCOTx Protocol
EPCOTx Protocol is especially-designed to help you reverse leptin resistance and heal your leaky gut, which as you all know, is the foundation for brain health. Leaky gut is basically tied to cellular oxidation and cellular aging. This protocol will help you rebuild your gut flora create the healthiest gut (which will give you the healthiest brain) possible. The EPCOTx Protocol works because it helps lowers inflammation, reduce oxidation, and stay in a reduced, pro-gestation pathway. This protocol is especially effective in helping reverse: Crohn’s SIBO Candida, GERD or helicobacter infection Skin problems Eating Disorders Hormone imbalances Obesity Infertility Hashimotos Dr. Jack will outline the fundamentals of this protocol and give us all very specific instructions on how to tweak our diets to achieve optimal results. We’ve jam-packed this webinar with a LOT of information you can use *right now* to fast-track you to optimal! Includes Q&A Session too! Buy Webinar
PRIMAL CPC 1: TOURETTE SYNDROME MEETS EVOLUTIONARY MEDICINE
READERS SUMMARY: 1. WHAT IS TOURETTE’S SYNDROME? 2. HOW MIGHT IT BE LINKED TO A LEAKY GUT, GRAINS, AND TIE TO OTHER DISEASE’S WE KNOW NADA ABOUT? 3. HOW DOES OUR HARDWIRING GIVE US NEW INSIGHTS? 4. HOW MIGHT NEUROSURGERY HELP CHRIS JOHNSON? 5. HOW MIGHT SOME PIONEERING DENTISTS TIED A NICE BOW ON THERAPY FOR CHRONIC TS PATIENTS? Tourette’s syndrome (TS) is defined as an inherited neurological disorder that is a chronic idiopathic syndrome that neurosurgeons consider in the family of movement disorders. Today’s blog is called a CPC. That is known as a clinico-pathologic conference for my readers. Every so often I am going to post about a disease process and how evolutionary medicine may look at something that modern medicine is vexed by. We generally do not treat these patients but neurologist however do. In my town we have a very famous running back who is a superstar that has a variant of this condition. The disease is characterized by the presence of multiple muscle tics and occasionally vocal tics that have their beginning before adulthood. It usually occurs with an onset in childhood between ages 5-8. A diagnosis of TS was almost three times as likely for boys as girls, twice as likely for personsContinue Reading
YOUR GUT,NEUROTRANSMITTERS AND HORMONES
READERS SUMMARY: 1. HOW YOUR GUT BRAIN AND RESPONSE OF YOUR BRAIN ARE ALL TIED TOGETHER? 2. WHAT ARE THE 4 MAIN NEUROTRANSMITTERS? 3. WHAT DO THEY DO AND MEAN? 4. WHAT AFFECTS THEIR PRODUCTION? 5. HORMONES ARE THE BRAINS ENDOCRINE SECRETION THAT TELLS YOU HOW YOUR EPIGENETIC SWITCHES ARE SET. 6. HOW WE USE HORMONE STAUTS TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS REALLY WRONG WITH YOU? The next post in the series follows directly upon what we learned about the brain and ketogenic diets. Today we are going to mesh the brain gut axis and neurotransmitters so you can begin to understand how diet can modify your personality and your behavior. In severe cases it can also cause mental illness and eating disorders. In fact, if you have never heard of the GAPS diet you need to read a bit about it. Today I will lay out some of the biologic plausibility of how this occurs and some interesting clinical correlates to specific NT deficits from our diets. Everything in biology usually ties back to the brain at some point and this is very clear in NT biology. Neurotransmitters are involved in many neural circuits in the central and peripheralContinue Reading
THE LEAKY GUT PRESCRIPTION………
READERS SUMMARY: 1. What is a leaky gut? 2. What can cause a leaky gut? 3. What are the leaky gut associated conditions? 4. How might one consider treating a leaky gut? Well, we have talked about the gut in three other blogs so far. (1) (2) (3) You can go to my home page under brain gut axis and find each one for a quick review. We have hinted at the leaky gut as a cause of serious human disease in all those posts. Today we get to focus on the “leaky gut” and how we might offer to treat it. What is a leaky gut syndrome? It is the complex biochemical reactions that occur in the gut appear to be the genesis of where inflammation initially passes in to our body. We need to realize this and avoid eating the things that cause this inflammation. As I have said for close to five years now this means strict avoidance of omega 6′s, all grains and especially wheat of any kind and very limited fructose (fruit or synthetic sources) The gut associated lymphatic tract (GALT) is the first place where our immune systems interact with the outside world. ThisContinue Reading
COULD IT BE THE GUT?
READERS SUMMARY: 1. What is the brain gut axis? 2. What diseases likely are tied to its breakdown? 3. Why might medical training force us to miss the importance of this axis? 4. How did I discover the brain gut axis in my own clinical practice? 5. Did evolution dictate where the initial battle of immunity should lie? When many doctors hear me talk about the brain gut axis I get lots of funny looks. See, this is an axis that we do not formally learn about in anatomy in medical school. We learn about systems in anatomy that are organized as tissues within organs. Physiology is where organ integration and its function is taught. Guess what? We did not learn about the brain gut axis there either. In fact, when I was in medical school and residency, I never once heard or attended a lecture of this axis that I believe is the fifth most important levee in my cellular theory of health! I personally believe that medicine is going to revolutionized by the science that is uncovered in this axis over the next few decades. I believe the diseases that currently have no cure or known cause willContinue Reading
