Hi Everyone! We’ve got a fun community project in the works, and we need YOU to make it awesome! We are going to build a community cookbook of epi-paleo recipes (woo hoo!), and we’re hoping you’re jonesing to chip in. We’ve set up a special forum on the site for you to submit your recipes (by season, of course!). Please follow Dr. Kruse’s guidelines for epi-paleo seasonal eating. Pictures of your finished dishes are welcome, but no links, please! Once we’ve compiled the submissions, we will have the community vote on their favorite recipe to feature for each season. The winners will receive a free copy of the new cookbook! View the Seasonal guidelines Hurry and submit your favorite epi-paleo recipes! All submissions are due by April 30, 2013. (We’ll leave the forum open, however, so you guys can keep submitting to your heart’s content until the apocalypse!)Continue Reading
If you remember my podcast several years back, I told you the disease that got me interested in all this was osteoporosis. This is a disease I treat a lot as a spine surgeon. I discussed Wolff’s law in detail in the EMF 1 blog. When I realized that Wolff’s law was null and void in leptin resistance states in bone, something else radical appeared to me. I knew that Leptin Resistance signaled inflammation, and inflammation could be seen as a positive charge and loss of a negative charge on MRI’s, fMRI, and MEG studies. I also realized that MRI or NMR should show an increased flair signal on T2 weighted MRI images signifying an intracellular water loss coupled with a loss of collagen and of ATP. Collagen makes up the main protein of connective tissues in all mammals, typically 60–70% by weight. The water and collagen constitute a liquid crystalline matrix in which every cell in the body is embedded, making this system the ideal medium for intercommunication in eutherian mammals. Within this matrix we have learned about proton and electron superconduction that not only feed the underlying mechanistic pathways that most biochemistry recite but they also feed a rich “wet chemistry” that is fundamentally based upon special qualities of water. It turns out water has some prodigious quantum flexibility when it is confined in closed spaces that make it do some unique quirky things that no classic chemist would predict. These things are all predicted by quantum electrodynamic field theory. One such quirk is the use of water reverse micelles around proteins that increase enzyme action and kinetics by the order 10 to the 10th power based upon the pioneering work of Frank Mayer and Jim Clegg. Classic physics and chemistry thinks of water in its bulk form only because that is all the classic sciences can explain about it. In quantum coherence, where water acts as a total cohesive unit because it has infinite chemical freedom, water becomes highly structured chemically, from its bulk form to do some amazing things, to become extremely flexible in phase transitions between ice crystals and liquid crystals and gas vapor as it gets confined in small diameter nanotubes in our cells. Water dynamics and actions are quantumly altered as it is confined within nanotubes it develops properties that allow it to collectively work dynamically within reverse micelles and in proton superconducting cables that align along collagen in the cells cytoarchitecture to allow for super fast semiconduction. This has been reproduced by many physics and molecular biology researchers in electron photomicrographs and X-ray diffraction studies. The most amazing property water develops as it is confined in these nanotubes, it becomes a super catalyst that organic chemistry has missed, because it accounts for the energy of activation of biochemical reactions and enzymatic kinetics. It is not ATP that does this, ever!! ATP has another more critical function. It unfolds protein in cells to open water binding sites to form these super conduction cables to create 100% energy efficiency.Continue Reading
“The miracle of your mind isn’t that you can see the world as it is. It’s that you can see the world as it isn’t.” – Kathryn Schulz
Without risk, life is worthless; without risk, biology does not work. Evolutionary biology is based upon the random risk of natural selection and and the conditions of existence. Darwin coined both of these terms but only explained the first well. The second idea was his better one, but he simply could not explain what conditions of existence meant. The reason was simple. He did not understand quantum field physics. Of the two, he said he knew, the latter was the most powerful force in biology. He was dead right, but since his time evolutionary biology and my critics have believed natural selection is the most important. It is not true. Today, we know “conditions of existence” meant epigenetics. Darwin spent the rest of of life looking for ‘epigenetics’ in an idea labeled “Pangenes”. He believed that Pangenes were responsible for translated environmental influences that have now become known as epigenetics today. Today we know that small frequency EMF’s called the Schumann resonance imprints water and creates life where their was none by using the power of quantum coherence of water. Evolution is in large part, about how these electromagnetic epigenetic signals are transferred to the living organism to living organism by bioelectrical cellular communication; it’s comparing quantum resonance notes and frequency notes and copying and pasting new epigenetic signals on RNA and DNA to make new genetic recipes to create a survival solution from life’s current condition of chaos. When we understand how that dish was created, we gain deep insight of how to keep that dish tasting fresh every time a generation is replicated. Today trans-generational epigenetics tells us something is badly off in our species.Continue Reading
“You’ve got to work at living… when 99% of the globe works at dying daily; Denial of the truth will lead you into blind alleys. Let go of your paradigm, accept what nature designed, and embrace your ultimate potential” -Gretchen Bronson (starfish)
Why is the clock the most important part of the story of life?
Have you ever had a dream that seems so large in scope, it just seems like it just possibly cannot come to fruition? I have for the last 7 years. Today, I am going to share it with you.
It is time. I believe all dreams come true, if we have the courage to pursue them. It is always easier to make a dollar off a dream, but it is a lot tougher to make a difference with one. I think EMF-2, is going to do just that for everyone.
I told you all last March, on Sean Croxton’s underground internet radio show, and at Paleo FX 2012, that environmental mismatches all cause inflammation. Many of you found it a bold and interesting statement, but I never told you WHY. The reason I did not, was because I did not feel you were ready to understand my perspective, yet. Today that changes. When you do not understand someone’s perspective often times what they say sometimes sounds a bit ‘bizarre’ to you. The reason it does is because you have no frame of reference for understanding, primarily because you were never taught that space/time, might be the most critical factor in understanding trans-generational epigenetic biology today. That is going to change today as well.Continue Reading

This is a new guest blog from a forum member named Inger, who you can find on our website forum. She has had an amazing transformation! I thought on my favorite day of the year, I would share with a story to warm your heart. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Hi. I am Inger. I want to share a bit from my journey with you, as I am so thankful for the huge benefits I have gained from this site. It has opened my eyes in so many ways and helped me understand. Thank you, Jack, for letting me share.
I love to think about this path as a journey towards waking up my 6th sense. I love that. This is so much more than just about foods, body shape, anything like that. It is so deep and broad; it is huge! I am in love. It is like I am part of the huge, beautiful universe, a oneness I often feel deep in my bones these days that is just amazing and peaceful. Sometimes I feel like I hear music inside me, music of joy. But it is totally silent around me. How magic is that?Continue Reading
This blog followed a very popular July 2012 Webinar that I put on for my members a few days ago. The webinar was over two hours long and had a lot of Q & A done after it as well. I promised my members I would get a quick blog post up for them on some of the core materials we covered. Today’s blog is delivering on that promise.
How to consider eating the Epi-Paleo Rx: Always Respect circadian cycles and eat according to seasonality, Lots of good quality proteins (see below), Lots of good quality fats (grass-fed/pastured animal fats – lard, tallow), Liberal uses of seafood broths and bone broth made from ocean and grass-fed animals (to heal the gut), and fermented vegetables and/or probiotics (to repopulate the gut with an Optimal Human flora)Continue Reading
Geeks: The implications of Brain Gut 4 mean that to develop a brain seafood is required part of the program to maintain it. Nutrients and many other environmental factors have also been found to influence epigenetic programing of our DNA either directly or indirectly via metabolic sensors. Peroxisomal proliferator-activated receptors (PPAR’s), the vitamin D receptors, and the retinoid X receptors (RXR), and the retinoic acid receptors (RAR) are all examples of the nuclear receptors that interact with the brain cell membranes to control inflammation and metabolism all over our bodies. It turns out that PPAR’s are the receptors that are at the crossroads of where inflammation and metabolism actually cross. These are specialized lipid sensors that pay attention to our balance of omega 6 and 3 levels. 3% of the human genome is directly or indirectly controlled by the endocrine functions of the Vitamin D system. This shows you how environmental signals are intertwined into the expression of DNA in humans. The Epi-Paleo Rx controls inflammation at a hormonal level in the brain better than the more famous paleo diet.
Non Geeks: What we eat is really damn important when you have 3 lbs of lipid in your head called a brain. If you eat outside our design you get sick.Continue Reading
The paleo community has the “Paleo Solution”, and it is a great introductory book to a lifestyle that will improve people to a higher plane of health than we have while eating a standard American diet found in our western world. It is clear from fossil data humans were in better physical shape in the late paleolithic before the Younger Dryas occurred as well. It appears that this deep freeze caused massive dietary change in the homo species from predominate hunter gatherers culture to and agrarian culture because of rapid climate change and elimination of the great megafauna from our food chains. The focus of this series, however, is focused upon when we jumped from purely primate to mainly homo species and to see what diet is really best for the rapid encephalization of our species. I am not convinced the modern paleolithic diet that is quite popular now fits that bill at all. The reason I bring this forth, is because I treat very sick and ill homo sapiens every day. ‘Eating paleo’ may just not reverse their health. The proof of this is found on every single popular paleo forum you can visit. As a surgeon, I need something that really works in the most resistant cases. That is where I discovered the Epi-Paleo Rx.
In my specialty of spine surgery, this is especially true when we are dealing with cranial and spinal pathology. As a neurosurgeon these neolithic diseases are the ones I am most focused in on in my clinic. Evolution is in large part about epigenetic to cellular communication; it’s comparing notes and copying and pasting new genetic recipes to create a new dish. When we understand how that dish was created we gain deep insight of how to to keep that dish tasting crisp and fresh every time we replicate it.Continue Reading

READERS SUMMARY: 1. WHAT BOOKS AM I READING NOW AND WHY? 2. WHY AM I WRITING BOOK REVIEWS IN A BLOG? 3. I THINK SOME PEOPLE HAVE IDEAS WE ALL NEED TO SHARE WITH THE WORLD? 4. I RARELY DO BOOK REVIEWS UNLESS THE BOOKS ARE WORTH IT, THESE TWO ARE. It’s time to begin packing for Jimmy Moore’s low carb cruise so I wanted to launch a post on some of the books I have been reading and spot light two of them that I think are really good reads. I have shared them with my members and my patients and now I want to share my thoughts with my blog readers. How to make your ‘I cans” always succeed your “I can’ts” First up, is Dean Dwyer’s first book called “Make Shift Happen” I met Dean for the first time at Paleo fx and we happened to be a on a panel together and his responses to audience questions really caught me be surprise. He was one of the most amazing breathes of fresh air in Austin I met. We spoke and he told me he wrote a book and I told him I’d love to read […]Continue Reading
READERS SUMMARY: WHY SHOULD WE QUESTION EVERYTHING? WHAT IS THE SOURCE OF ALL CHOICE? WHERE MIGHT THE REWARD IN SAFE STARCHES TRULY LIE? HOW GOOD IS YOUR NEOLITHIC BRAIN AT SENSING YOUR PALEOLITHIC BRAIN? DOES QUANTUM MECHANICS PROVIDE AN EXPLANATION FOR THE PARADOX OF CHOICE? I took a stroll through some of my favorite sites last night because I could not sleep well (added back a safe starch ironically yesterday, too) because I have some big things on my mind, and it seems some of the doubters are beginning to see the magic in my Quilt document. I remember when I posted it and how I was ridiculed in some places. I just sat back and took it all in because I fully expected that response. In fact, I told one of my internet friends, Dexter Yard, that I did this by design for a reason. I went as far as emailing a copy of the document to him to look over before it ever was posted on the Internet. His reply was much more kind and subdued than what I faced publicly when I launched the document. He told me he felt that this was not going to […]Continue Reading
The Cold Thermogenesis Protocol should be added gradually to the Leptin Rx rest protocol. This blog post is additive to the Leptin Rx, and is an evolution extension of it for those who need it. I hope you all realize that not everyone will need it. Some will need it because they have special needs that they face. This blog is designed for those who have been previously left out of the reset protocol. Those people are gastric bypass patients, HCG users, those on exogenous steroids, chronic pain patients, and those with T2D and metabolic syndrome, as a few examples.
Prolonged and controlled local peripheral skin cooling can induce selective “damage,” and increased hypothalamic signaling by forcing adipocyte apoptosis and subsequent loss of subcutaneous fat without damaging the overlying skin or the underlying muscle layers. This means that acute cold cause rapid leptin sensitivity! It means that fat is forced to liberate leptin from fat cells to slowly lower its serum levels as long as the cold stimulus is applied safely. This is new scientific information that was first carried out in pigs in 2008, and subsequently tested in humans and found to be quite effective for fat removal in certain selected areas of the body.Continue Reading
I do not believe there is a more misunderstood disease by conventional medicine than Lyme disease and Fibromyalgia. Many healthcare providers do not even think FM exists to the determent of millions of people. It is estimated that ten million people suffer from these diseases today. 75% of them are women. The reason for that is because leptin is involved, and as you all know it is a sexually dimorphic hormone. These are diseases that affect the fat cells in all parts of our body. They also cause issues with adiponectin, which is also sexually dimorphic. Many women will be glad to know that fact. Understanding Lyme disease actually helps you understand FM very well.
Both diseases cause abnormal activation of an immune mediated pathway that takes over cytokine production in the fat cells that line our GI tracts, respiratory tracts, sinuses, and many other organs. Most know that Lyme is most commonly associated with a tick bite, and the host gets infected with spirochete bacteria. What most do not know, is that this tick liberates a neurotoxin that causes most of its symptoms. This neurotoxin activation is common to many diseases just like Lyme disease. FM, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Sick building Syndrome, and mold exposure are just a few. All these diseases activate the same pathway, and this is why they have features that are quite similar clinical findings. Making these connections clinically helped me tie this all together. Since I came to a deep understanding of how important leptin is to our body several years ago, it made complete sense to me to think all these diseases might have a leptin link because of the constellation of symptoms were all tied to specific cytokine activation. This is precisely how leptin resistance develops too. This is how a change of perspective might help a physician see a problem in a new way. It is precisely how Evolutionary medicine prism has allowed me to come to bio-hack just about any disease we face as a species now.Continue Reading
What are some of the medical conditions that are associated with osteopenia or osteoporosis?
1. Excessive alcohol intake- greater than two drinks a day consistently will do it.
2. Tobacco use- This causes a 100 fold increase in bone loss. Oral tobacco is worse than inhaled smoke
3. Stress- any cause be it emotional, physical, mental, psychic all raise cortisol chronically and kill bone
4. Lack of physical activity increases obesity risk, which increases cortisol from leptin resistance
5. Low calcium intake or absorption from gastrectomy or low acid production from any reason
6. Reduced strength and activity due to a chronic illness or a sedentary life (checked with a grip test)
7. Small build or leanness naturally – correlates with BMI below 19 for women and men.
8. Asian women have a particular propensity to osteopenia genetically and from their diet.
9. Drug therapy, for example, long-term use of corticosteroids such as prednisone-used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, celiac disease, autoimmune diseases, Crohn’s disease, IBD, and ulcerative colitis.
10. Low Magnesium, strontium, boron, Vitamin D3, Vitamin K2, elevated PTH levels, low sex steroid levels, high insulin levels, low progesterone levels, any cause of a leaky gut.
13. Any cause of chronic inflammation (perimenopause can cause severe acute bone loss)
14. Disuse atrophy from any cause (space travel)
16. High carbohydrate diets
17. Veganism or a plant based diet.
18. A diet high in whole grain (carbohydrates) is especially risky due to mineral malabsorption in gut
19. A diet lacking in animal protein and animal fat and cholesterol.
20. Excessive use of statins and thyroid hormone can cause osteoporosis
21. Age and sex: the older one is predisposes to osteopenia. Women lose 1-3% of their bone density ever year after their last period.
22. Chronic endurance athletics of any type cause severe bone loss due to chronic cortisol elevations
23. Gastric bypass patients carry enormous osteopenic risks.
24. Severe liver or kidney disease; Renal insufficiency can lead to osteodystrophy.
26. People with scoliosis of unknown cause (idiopathic scoliosis) also have a higher risk of osteoporosis. I believe this is because most of these children have severe underlying Vitamin D deficiency and a leaky gut, but this has never been studied in the spine literature. Any time I see a scolisosi patient, I always screen for low sex steroid hormones, low Vitamin D levels, and low Carboxylated osteocalcin levels. Bone loss can be a feature of complex regional pain syndromes.as they develop over time. It is also more frequent in people with Parkinson’s disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease as well.
READERS SUMMARY: ARE THE SUPPLEMENTS FOR THE LEPTIN RESET DIFFERENT FOR HCG USERS? WHAT ARE THOSE SUPPLEMENTS? WHAT DO THOSE SUPPLEMENTS DO? WHAT SHOULD HCG USERS CONSIDER OVER A STANDARD PALEO/PRIMAL TEMPLATE? I decided to add this post for the many readers I have that use HCG. To say that I have been inundated with emails about this topic would be an understatement. I think from my public comments at MDA and PaleoHacks about HCG, people have wanted to know a bit more about why HCG patients react differently than a regular paleo patient would. I think is best explained by the following example. Patients given coumadin by their doctors have to be treated differently for osteoporosis in my clinic. Most of you know I no longer use the bisphosphonate drugs as a first line treatment for this condition. So if a patient is on coumadin, I cannot offer them high dose Vitamin K2 therapy because coumadin depletes vitamin K as a side effect of its mode of action. This why so many people on long term coumdin treatment suffer from dystrophic calcification of their arteries in their aortic tree and coronary vessels while simultaneously having extreme osteopenia. So these […]Continue Reading
READERS SUMMARY: 1. HOW YOUR GUT BRAIN AND RESPONSE OF YOUR BRAIN ARE ALL TIED TOGETHER? 2. WHAT ARE THE 4 MAIN NEUROTRANSMITTERS? 3. WHAT DO THEY DO AND MEAN? 4. WHAT AFFECTS THEIR PRODUCTION? 5. HORMONES ARE THE BRAINS ENDOCRINE SECRETION THAT TELLS YOU HOW YOUR EPIGENETIC SWITCHES ARE SET. 6. HOW WE USE HORMONE STAUTS TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS REALLY WRONG WITH YOU? The next post in the series follows directly upon what we learned about the brain and ketogenic diets. Today we are going to mesh the brain gut axis and neurotransmitters so you can begin to understand how diet can modify your personality and your behavior. In severe cases it can also cause mental illness and eating disorders. In fact, if you have never heard of the GAPS diet you need to read a bit about it. Today I will lay out some of the biologic plausibility of how this occurs and some interesting clinical correlates to specific NT deficits from our diets. Everything in biology usually ties back to the brain at some point and this is very clear in NT biology. Neurotransmitters are involved in many neural circuits in the central and peripheral […]Continue Reading
